Who Daily Wellness Calls Are For

KindlyCall is designed for elderly Australians and adults with disability. The service is used by adults with a wide range of conditions, including physical disability, acquired brain injury, intellectual disability (mild to moderate), chronic illness, mental health conditions, and sensory impairment.

The common thread is this: the person lives independently or semi-independently (in their own home, a supported accommodation setting, or shared housing), and there is value in a daily check-in call that confirms they are safe, okay, and able to flag any concerns.

Adults with physical disability

People with mobility limitations, chronic pain, or conditions like MS, MD, or spinal injury who live at home but may experience days where getting help is difficult.

People with acquired brain injury

ABI can affect memory, routine, and the ability to self-report difficulties. A daily call checks in on routine, prompts medication, and provides a consistent contact point.

Adults with chronic illness

Conditions like lupus, fibromyalgia, heart failure, kidney disease, or COPD involve fluctuating good and bad days. A daily check-in captures the pattern over time and alerts family when something is off.

Adults with intellectual disability (mild–moderate)

For people in supported independent living or living semi-independently, a daily call provides structure and a check-in that reduces the burden on support workers and family.

How Daily Calls Support Independence Without Undermining It

There is a careful balance to strike in disability support: maintaining safety while preserving the autonomy, dignity, and self-determination that are central to independent living. Daily wellness calls, when introduced thoughtfully, sit on the right side of that line.

The person chooses when the call comes

The call time is set by or with the person receiving calls. They have control over this aspect of the service from day one.

No device to wear or manage

Unlike pendant alarms or monitoring apps, KindlyCall uses the person’s existing phone. There is nothing additional to carry, charge, or remember. No visible marker of “being monitored.”

Reduces reliance on family, not replaces it

For families of adults with disability, the daily worry about “Is she okay today?” is exhausting. A daily call with a family dashboard alert system reduces that anxiety without requiring the person to report to their family directly — preserving their privacy and independence.

Supports, not replaces, formal support

KindlyCall is not a substitute for NDIS support workers, SIL providers, or disability support services. It fills the gaps between formal support hours — particularly overnight, on weekends, and on public holidays when formal services may be reduced.

NDIS Funding and Daily Check-In Calls

Whether KindlyCall can be funded through a participant’s NDIS plan depends on how their plan is structured and what supports are deemed reasonable and necessary. Participants with funding in the Daily Activities or Improved Daily Living support categories may be able to use plan funds for assistive technology or support services that enable independent living.

We recommend speaking with your NDIS support coordinator or plan manager. KindlyCall is a low-cost service — from $19/month — that is often more easily absorbed as an out-of-pocket cost than navigated through the NDIS funding process, particularly for participants with plan-managed or self-managed plans.
